Blue Grass Airport Sets New Passenger Record in 2024

January 29, 2025—Today, Blue Grass Airport (LEX) proudly celebrates a record-breaking 1,571,805 passengers in 2024, surpassing the previous record of 1,465,049 passengers set in 2019. This remarkable achievement represents a 16.1 percent increase over 2023. The four airlines operating from Blue Grass Airport—Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines—each contributed significantly to reaching this new milestone.

A key factor contributing to this record-setting performance was the addition of new flights connecting Lexington to highly sought-after destinations, including Denver (United Airlines) and Las Vegas (Allegiant). Along with these new year-round flights, American Airlines introduced seasonal winter flights to Miami, and Allegiant expanded service to Destin/Ft. Walton Beach with more frequent flights. These new routes, combined with increased frequency to other destinations by all four airlines, contributed to significant passenger growth.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone of welcoming a record number of travelers in 2024,” said Eric Frankl, president and CEO of Blue Grass Airport. “This substantial growth of over 16 percent reflects the commitment of our airline partners and the tremendous support of those choosing to fly from our region. As we continue to grow, we remain focused on providing exceptional service and convenient travel options to connect central Kentucky and the world.”

Exciting new flights to highly anticipated destinations are set to launch in 2025. Beginning April 3, 2025, Allegiant will begin twice weekly, non-stop flights to Sarasota, Florida, providing passengers with a convenient opportunity to visit the area’s gorgeous beaches and family-friendly attractions. Then, beginning on May 7, 2025, Delta Air Lines will resume daily non-stop flights to New York LaGuardia Airport, marking a highly anticipated return to service since the COVID-19 pandemic.
