August 1, 2023 — Blue Grass Airport will host a public Master Plan Open House from
5:30-7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 8 in the Bluegrass Ballroom of the Campbell House Lexington. Participants will be able to view conceptual layout options for various components of the airport’s new Master Plan, which will create a strategic vision to accommodate the future aviation needs of the region.
There will be Information Stations displaying conceptual layouts of five key areas/components:
- Terminal Building
- Airfield Layout
- Parking and Roadways
- Private and Corporate Aviation Facilities
- Air Traffic Control Tower Relocation
For those who can’t attend, images will be posted on bluegrassairport.com/masterplan following the workshop, and feedback can be submitted online.
The Master Plan will cover all aspects of airport infrastructure and reviews areas such as safety, passenger experience, facilities, and corporate and private aviation. During the process, the airport and its team have been gathering and analyzing data about the existing facilities, including physical and operational aspects as well as environmental and financial considerations. This information will be used to create development plans for future needs.
“Public input from customers, neighbors, businesses, policymakers and community organizations will help us create a plan with the goal of providing the highest quality aviation facilities and services for our community,” said Eric Frankl, president and CEO of Blue Grass Airport.
The airport has been consulting with local, state and national aviation experts as it creates a new plan for the future. A community leadership advisory committee and technical advisory committee also have met periodically to provide input and advice.
The airport’s latest economic impact study demonstrates that Blue Grass Airport provides an economic impact of $370 million and 3,478 jobs. These figures continue to grow each year, so the Master Plan will ensure the airport can successfully accommodate both current and future passengers. The last master planning process was completed in 2013, when the previous plan from 2005 was updated.
