September 25, 2019 – Blue Grass Airport Director of Public Safety and Operations Scott Lanter, A.A.E., was named Commercial Service Airport Professional of the Year at the 43rd annual Kentucky Aviation Association Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. Awarded by the Kentucky Department of Aviation, this recognition is given to an individual that has demonstrated strong support and dedication to aviation in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Aviation Association is a non-profit organization that promotes aviation and airport management in the Commonwealth through networking and professional development opportunities. Approximately 275 aviation professionals attended this year's conference to hear from the Federal Aviation Administration, the Kentucky Department of Aviation and industry professionals on a variety of airport topics.

"It was great to see Scott Lanter receive this award. Not only is he a well-known leader in the police and firefighting community, but he also brings that same passion and energy to the airport management profession," said Eric Frankl, executive director of Blue Grass Airport.

As part of Blue Grass Airport's senior leadership team, Lanter oversees keeping its aviation facilities safe, secure and compliant within a variety of federal and state requirements. Lanter is certified by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a professional firefighter, public safety officer, fire service instructor and emergency medical technician. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and the Department of Criminal Justice Training's School of Strategic Leadership. He has earned a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Police from Eastern Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire and Safety Engineering. Lanter has been a part of Blue Grass Airport for 32 years, advancing up as chief of public safety in 2001 to his current role as director of public safety and operations in 2009. In addition to the leadership team at the airport, he is a part-time faculty instructor in the Aviation Management Program at Eastern Kentucky University, a licensed drone operator and past president of the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives.

"I am both humbled and honored to have been selected as the Commercial Service Airport Professional of the Year. My role at the airport has allowed me to continue my passion for serving others in a dual role— aviation leadership and as a first responder," said Lanter.
